International Coordination Eurythmy Therapy

Fundamentals of the method

Eurythmy therapy is a self-activating movement therapy that is among the most important treatment methods of Anthroposophic Medicine as an extension of conventional medicine. Its modern holistic view of the connection between body, soul and spirit in the human being forms the basis of the therapy.

Eurythmy therapy has many different ways of working, including the regulation of metabolic as well as nervous and sensory processes and the harmonisation of cardiovascular activity. All organ functions can be stimulated and corrected through targeted exercises. The exercises improve body awareness, coordination and dexterity, leading to relaxation or revitalisation and thus to an individual inner balance.  This systemic approach guides the patient to the body's own resources of strength as the basis of health.

International network

The IKAM Eurythmy Therapy team coordinates the work of around 2000 therapists in over 40 countries around the world. Tasks include mutual perception and support of as well as providing advice for eurythmy therapy activities in practice, training and research. An important field of work is the protection of the eurythmy therapy method and its recognition within the medical care structures of countries.

IFAT (International Federation of Anthroposophic Therapies)

The collaboration with other forms of anthroposophical medical therapy is located in IFAT. This is where, among other things, the quality standards for anthroposophical therapies are developed and defined. These form the basis for the AnthroMed® quality seal and its award.

Training

Eurythmy therapy can be studied in training centres with accredited study programmes, with some starting on an annual basis. There are also committed training initiatives. Whether an accredited study course or a training initiative, all training programmes are subject to the Benchmarks for Training in Anthroposophic Medicine. They are thus authorised by the Medical Section, which awards the Diploma in Eurythmy Therapy after successful completion. Some training centres also award a Master's diploma in eurythmy therapy or lead to professional recognition in Switzerland. The training field is organised in the International Eurythmy Therapy Trainers' Conference (IHEAK).

Professional associations

There are currently professional organisations in 16 countries that, for example, implement the international framework conditions in accordance with national regulations in the healthcare system, strengthen communication and networking among members, and organise further training. Membership of the professional association is a prerequisite for being awarded the "Anthromed – Eurythmy Therapy" quality seal in accordance with the IFAT AnthroMed® set of criteria.

Country representative

It is possible even for a first pioneer in a country to be listed as a country representative and to represent eurythmy therapy, as the smallest institutionalised level, within the international community.
